On her retirement, Professor Jaya Krishnakumar was invited to present her farewell lecture as the guest speaker at the Solari Lecture 2022. The event was held on Thursday, 8 December at Uni Mail. The topic of the speech was “A tale of many friendships: When econometrics met human development”.

The event was opened by Professor Markus Menz, Dean of the Geneva School of Economics and Management. Professor Yves Flückiger, Rector of the University of Geneva, acknowledged Professor Krishnakumar’s contributions to research in the field of econometrics and the University over the past 26 years. Professor Krishnakumar was introduced by her colleague and collaborator at the Institute of Economics and Econometrics, GSEM Professor Jérémy Lucchetti.

Professor Krishnakumar addressed her research history on Simultaneous Equations Models and Human Development. She explained that she has always been motivated by a passion to contribute to the betterment of society and used the "capabilities" approach to study and measure well-being.

These points were further discussed in a Q&A session with members of the audience. This was followed by a few words of gratitude from Dr. Monika Avila Márquez, who completed her Ph.D. in Econometrics under Professor Krishnakumar, and Luigi Solari’s son, Philippe.

Each year, the Solari Lecture welcomes distinguished guests specialized in economics and econometrics, in memory of Luigi Solari, professor at the University of Geneva and pioneer in introducing research in econometrics in Switzerland. Since its first edition in 1979, this conference has featured many notable guest speakers.
