To register for the CERG-C, you need to have already a master degree or a diploma of 5 years from your University. If it is the case and you are interested in the 2026 session (dates be defined), you need to prepare an application and send it by email. The deadline is 15 September 2025. The application form will be available on this page in Spring 2025.
The following documents must be submitted with the completed and signed Application Form. Incomplete application packages will not be considered. All your files must be named using your lastname as a prefix.
- a short proposal (maximum 1 page) of your potential research project for the CERG-C thesis
- a CV listing all the stages (with year, name of institution and type of titles
- obtained) of your academic (from secondary school) and professional background (see example of CV format on https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/documents/curriculum-vitae)
- a copy of document stating your abilities in English
- a letter of motivation stating stating your motivations, expectations and the potential benefit for your institution to attend the CERG-C training
- a copy of your University master diploma (or equivalent) with the grades obtained during the studies (copy of original documents in English, French, Italian, Spanish accepted; original documents written in another language need to be accompanied by an English certified version)
- a copy of your University bachelor diploma with the grades obtained during the studies (copy of original documents in English, French, Italian, Spanish accepted; original documents written in another language need to be accompanied by an English certified version)
- a digital copy (minimum 300dpi resolution) of an ID picture
- a digital copy of your passport
- one letter of recommendation with name, address, phone number, fax number and
- an academic/professional relationship letter from your Employer or Supervisor authorizing your CERG-C application with email address
If you are requesting a fellowship, you need to add two more documents :
- a table showing your monthly revenue on one side and expenses that you have currently in your country on the other side (in local and Swiss currency)
- your annual tax notice (year 2023)
Short Proposal |
As part of the documents required for the CERG-C application you need to submit a short proposal describing the main topic of your proposed final research project on (max 1 page).
The final research project can consist of a comprehensive Mémoire describing a specific geological risk, including data processing and analyses and application of management strategies. You may choose to carry out your project in Switzerland (at your own expenses) within the month following the CERG-C course using the facilities provided by the University of Geneva (Computer Lab, University Library) and benefiting from the interaction with a supervisor expert in the topic you have chosen. Or, you may carry out the project in your home country, still benefiting from the “remote” supervision of an expert in the field.
The final project may also consist of a project carried out as part of an internship with an NGO, with a National or International organization or with a private institution. The timing and structure of the internship will depend on the specific organization you chose to partner with and the specifics of your project. Your personal contribution to the project will have to be described and then confirmed by the supervisor of the project.

Admission and Tuition Fees |
- The admission requirements and the evaluation of qualification are specified in the chapter study regulations.
- Applicants should possess a valid visa for Schengen space. They should also contact the Swiss Embassy or Consulate and the other consulates in their country of residence to obtain the necessary visa before arriving at Geneva. A candidate without the required visa will not be admitted to the course.
- Applicants with a recognized certificate of specialization in either one of the 4 fields of geological risks may ask for equivalence in the relevant field.
- Applicants can request a formal estimate of the training costs by email (Contact).
- Applicants applying for a scholarship or a grant from their government, institution or an International organization may request a formal estimate of the tuition and living costs.
