Define multiple response sets
The implicit example here is a question on fears where it was
possible to select up to five fears (first, second...).
- Select the variables to be part of the set
- Indicate that the variables have categories and you would like
values (categories) 1 through 11 to be included in the computations
(see note below)
Enter a name for the set (maximum 7 characters) and label it.
Click Add to add the current list
to the list of defined sets.
Then close the dialog, or if needed define further sets.
Notes
There are in fact two ways to record multiple responses:
- In our case we have a list of fears, and the respondent
picked one of them saying this is the most important one,
then the second and the third and so on.
- We could have asked the question differently by asking for each fear
whether the respondent has that fear and check all fears mentioned on a list.
As there are 11 fears you would need 11 variables, one for each fear and code
each variable if the corresponding fear was mentioned 1, and 0 if the fear was
not mentioned, i.e. we will create 11 dichotomous variables.
- Sets are local to the
facility and not
available in other commands.
- Sets are not saved with the dataset.
