Routledge Handbook on AI & Philanthropy

COMING SOON

The Routledge Handbook on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Philanthropy aims to position itself as the most authoritative, comprehensive, and contemporary writing on AI and philanthropy. By generating solid academic contributions, this handbook will have a double role: (1) stand as a reference point for the adoption of AI by the philanthropic sector, and (2) guide the role of philanthropy in promoting the development of ethical and inclusive artificial intelligence (EIAI).

The handbook will be divided into two main sections: 1) AI for Philanthropy and 2) AI, Philanthropy and Ethics, and will aim to be easily accessible to academics, students, practitioners and policy makers. The handbook will be available in both paper and digital format, including on Open Access.

By including contributions by leading academics and practitioners, the purpose of this handbook is to:

  • Provide a well-grounded, academic baseline for the study and practice of AI and philanthropy;

  • Assess the different themes surrounding the relationship between AI and philanthropy;

  • Critically examine the barriers to increasing AI adoption in the  philanthropic sector;

  • Map the current use of AI in the philanthropic sector, as well as philanthropy’s engagement in the development of EIAI, and identify the risks, limitations and mitigation strategies;

  • Develop a range of approaches and principles to guide the intersection between AI and philanthropy;

  • Unite the voices and perspectives of academics and practitioners and create bridges between research and implementation;

  • Stimulate and guide future research endeavours on this topic.

Due to its multidisciplinary nature, this handbook will offer the most representative writing on the topic. It will be accessible to a wide-ranging audience, from scholars and students to practitioners and regulators in the field. It will respond to the needs of those interested in orienting themselves in the rapidly developing and increasingly relevant fields of AI and philanthropy.
