La détection de la pertinence comme déterminant psychologique de l’apprentissage émotionnel
Ma thèse de doctorat s’est focalisée sur les liens entre émotion et apprentissage. Elle a examiné comment les théories des émotions peuvent nous aider à comprendre pourquoi les humains apprennent préférentiellement certaines informations affectives. Au travers d’études comportementales, psychophysiologiques et computationnelles, la thèse a montré que l’apprentissage émotionnel est renforcé pour les stimuli affectivement pertinents, tant positifs que négatifs, par rapport aux stimuli neutres. Ces résultats suggèrent que la détection de la pertinence module l’apprentissage émotionnel au-delà de la valence, et permettent de mieux comprendre les déterminants de l’émotion et de l’apprentissage.
Relevance detection as a psychological determinant of emotional learning
My PhD thesis focused on investigating the links between emotion and learning. Specifically, it examined how we can leverage emotion theories to understand how and why humans preferentially learn about specific affective information. Across multiple studies using behavioral, psychophysiological, and computational methods, the thesis shows that emotional learning is enhanced in response to both positive and negative stimuli that are appraised as affectively relevant compared to neutral stimuli. These findings suggest that emotional learning is driven by a mechanism of relevance detection beyond valence, and foster insights into the psychological determinants of emotion and learning.
