Chapter 42 :Cognitive appraisals can differentiate positive emotions: The role of social appraisals

Abstract : A question in appraisal research is whether positive emotions can be as strongly differentiated as negative emotions. This chapter discusses how strongly social appraisals, which are appraisals of how the situation is affecting another person, differentiate positive emotions and negative emotions. Discriminant function analyses on data from Singapore showed that social appraisals classified positive emotions with a higher accuracy rate than negative emotions.
