Abstract : It is explained how the construction of the GRID instrument has been guided by very different disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches, namely by the componential approach, the dimensional approach, and the basic emotion approach in emotion psychology, as well as by cultural comparative and linguistic perspectives. Insights from each of these disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches have guided the selection of the emotion words, the selection of the emotion features, the development of the instructions and the response scale of the GRID instrument. Moreover, analysis procedures are proposed that allow representing the data in ways that are relevant for each of the disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches that have guided the construction of the instrument.
