General introduction: A paradigm for a multidisciplinary investigation of the meaning of emotion terms
Authors : J. R. J. Fontaine, K. R. Scherer & C. Soriano
Abstract : The chapter introduces the eight parts that structure the book. The first part presents the various disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches to the meaning of emotion words that have guided the construction of the GRID instrument. The second part describes the instrument itself, the multicultural empirical data collection, and the overall emotion structure empirically identified. The third part investigates the meaning structure of each emotion component separately. The fourth, fifth and sixth parts contain reports of a multitude of studies using the GRID instrument to address issues from psychological, cultural-comparative, and linguistic perspectives, respectively. Part seven presents a number of pertinent case studies. In the final part we take stock and propose further developments of the GRID paradigm.
