Autour du monde avec Filippo Grandi, haut-commissaire aux réfugiés des Nations unies

La Semaine des droits humains s’associe aux quatre associations estudiantines, Forum Aussenpolitik Schweiz (Foraus), Geneva International Model United Nations (GIMUN), Swiss Diplomacy Student Association (SDSA) et Studenti Ticinesi e Italiani a Ginevra (STIG) pour un événement original avec l’un des piliers de la Genève internationale et du monde humanitaire, Filippo Grandi, haut-commissaire aux réfugiés des Nations unies.

Né à Milan en 1957, Filippo Grandi est haut-commissaire des Nations unis pour les réfugiés (UNHCR) depuis janvier 2016. Le UNHCR représente 18 000 employés répartis dans 135 pays dont le rôle est de protéger et porter assistance à plus de 100 millions de réfugiés, de rapatriés, de personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur pays ainsi que d'apatrides.

Avant d'être élu Haut-Commissaire, Filippo Grandi s'est engagé dans la coopération internationale pendant plus de 30 ans, en se concentrant sur les réfugiés et le travail humanitaire. Il a ainsi été commissaire général adjoint, puis commissaire général, de l'agence des Nations unies pour les réfugiés palestiniens (UNRWA) de 2005 à 2014. Ses fonctions l’ont menés à exercer dans différentes régions du monde dont l’Afghanistan, le UNHCR en Afrique, en Asie, au Moyen-Orient, puis au siège de l'organisation à Genève.

Inspiré d'une émission de télévision suisse-italienne (RSI/RTS) intitulée "Le jeu du monde" (Il Gioco del Mondo), l’événement a pour but de découvrir le vécu et opinions du haut-commissaire à travers les différents pays où il a exercé durant sa carrière au service des droit humains.

The Human Rights Week associate with the four associations Forum Aussenpolitik Schweiz (Foraus), Geneva International Model United Nations (GIMUN), Swiss Diplomacy Student Association (SDSA) and Studenti Ticinesi e Italiani a Ginevra (STIG) for an original event with one of the pillars of international Geneva and the humanitarian world, Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Born in Milan in 1957, Filippo Grandi has a degree in modern history and philosophy. He has been the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since January 2016. UNHCR represents 18,000 employees in 135 countries whose role is to protect and assist more than 100 million refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons as well as stateless people.

Before being elected High Commissioner, Filippo Grandi was involved in international cooperation for over 30 years, focusing on refugee and humanitarian work. He served as Deputy Commissioner General and then Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from 2005 to 2014. His work took him to different regions of the world including Afghanistan, UNHCR in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the organization's headquarters in Geneva.

Inspired by a Swiss-Italian television program (RSI/RTS) entitled "The Game of the World" (Il Gioco del Mondo), the event aims to discover the experiences and opinions of the High Commissioner through the different countries where he has worked during his career in the service of human rights.
