Introducing the Alliance to Spare Water from Armed Conflict
The event will take place on 23 November 2023 online and in person at the World Meteorological Organization from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Alliance aims to galvanize efforts to protect water in times of armed conflict and to support the implementation of several legal instruments including the International Law Commission's Draft Principles on the Protection of the Environment in relation to Armed Conflicts of 2022, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Guidelines on the Protection of the Natural Environment in Armed Conflict of 2020 and the Political Declaration to Better Protect Civilians from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas of 2022.
The event is jointly organized by the Geneva Water Hub and the Republic of Slovenia with the support of the Swiss Confederation, the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.
