In the "Future We Want" document, States reaffirm their committments regarding the human right to water and sanitation

In the "Future We Want", the Outcome Document of the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, States reaffirm their "committments regarding the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation, to be progressively realized for (their) populations with full respect for national sovereignty".

In her press statement on the Outcome Document of the Rio +20 Summit, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation stressed that: "The principles contained in the Rio+20 Outcome Document must move forward to ensure access to water and sanitation in sufficient quantities to protect human health and dignity, particularly for the most marginalized".
