La scarsità d’acqua, in molte regioni, è esacerbata dalla povertà, dalle scarse risorse igieniche e dalla fragilità economica, oltre che, ovviamente, dalle conseguenze dei cambiamenti climatici. In molti luoghi del mondo è motivo di guerre e conflitti. Così, durante la 72esima Assemblea Generale dell'Onu, si è parlato di questo tema in occasione del High Level Panel on Water and Peace.
