Admission Criteria (for all applicants)

Academic requirement:  

The art. 3 of the CTL Regulations sets the following admission criteria that must be met by the candidates:
(1) The candidate must, in principle, still pursue a basic law degree [Bachelor or Master] in a Swiss or foreign faculty of law. Each application is examined individually.
(2) The candidate must have successfully completed two years of legal studies, which in Europe is equivalent to 120 ECTS credits.
 

Language Requirement: Fluent in English or French. No language certificate is required. Nevertheless, a minimum level of English B2-C1 according to the Common European Framework is highly recommended.

Application procedure

Instruction A :
For external student not participating in ERASMUS or another exchange programme 

If you are not taking part in an exchange programme and are not currently enrolled as a student at the University of Geneva, please respect the conditions and deadlines below.

Application Deadline

28 February (for the autumn semester, for students who need a visa)

30 April (for the autumn semester, for students who don't need a visa)

30 September (for the spring semester, for students who need a visa)

30 November (for the spring semester, for students who don't need a visa)

Application Procedure

Submit the following documents within the application deadline mentioned above at the address indicated below:

  • Certified true copies of your secondary school diplomas and university degrees already obtained*
  • Certified true copies of grades obtained in all university exams, along with an explanation including the range of grades available. These documents need to attest two years of  legal studies, which in Europe is equivalent to 120 ECTS*
  • Two letters of recommendation by university professors* (condition currently suspended due to the pandemic)
  • Copy of your passport (indicating family name, first name, nationality)
  • A complete CV (in English, French or German) including details of all stages of your education
  • The CTL Enrolment Form
  • Proof of enrolment at the home university (Please note: you need to stay enrolled in your home universities for the duration of the CDT/CTL programme. Proof thereof is to be provided as soon as possible)*

* A certified translation must be provided for all documents in a language other than English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Instruction B :

Application Deadline

Application procedure

Submit your registration documents for the ‘Certificate in Transnational Law’ including:

  • Curriculum Vitae (in English, French or German)
  • Copy of your University degrees already obtained*
  • Proof of grades obtained in all university exams, proving two years of legal studies.These documents need to attest two years of  legal studies, which in Europe is equivalent to 120 ECTS*

* A certified translation must be provided for all documents in a language other than English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.
