Sérgio Branco is Director of the Instituto de Technologia e Sociedade in Rio de Janeiro. He holds a master's degree and a doctorate in civil law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He is the director of the Instituto de Technologia e Sociedade in Rio de Janeiro.

From 2006 to 2013, he was Professor of Civil Law and Intellectual Property at Fundação Getulio Vargas Law School. He was also the Academic Development Coordinator of the Graduate Program at FGV Direito Rio in 2005, as well as the Legal Manager of the Brazilian Information Technology Institute in 2006.

Sérgio Branco is the author of several books including "Copyright Law at the Internet and the Use of Other People's Works", "The Public Domain in Brazilian Copyright Law" and "What is Creative Commons - New Copyright Models in a More Creative World".
