Dr Peter Strebel
Presentation title: Measles eradication, challenges and perspectives
Dr. Strebel is a medical graduate from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He completed a Master of Public Health and Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and is board-certified in Preventive Medicine in the USA. He worked for over 15 years in the US National Immunization Programme. From 2005 to 2016, he worked at the World Health Organization, in Geneva, responsible for accelerated control of vaccine preventable diseases with a focus on measles and rubella elimination. From 2017 to 2023, he was Head of the Measles and Rubella Programme at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles covering a wide-range of immunization-related topics and has authored the “Measles” chapter in Plotkin’s Vaccines textbook since 2008. He is currently an independent consultant based in Geneva, Switzerland.
