Professor Parham Sendi is a Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Bern, and head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Federal Office of Public Health in Switzerland. He did his training in Switzerland and a research fellowship at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He worked as a locum consultant and honorary Ph.D. supervisor at the Oxford University Hospitals, UK. Dr. Sendi is an annually returning visiting guest professor at the Division of Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. In addition, he is a member of the scientific committee consulting on microbiology perspectives in the view of pubic health questions for the Robert Koch Institute, Berlin Germany.
His research interest evolves around the topics of osteoarticular, intravascular, central nervous system, and streptococcal infections, and PK/PD of antibiotics, and since 2020, COVID-19. He is a leading author of several Swiss guidelines in the field of ortho-ID and prevention of infective endocarditis. In addition, he serves as the Editor of the Journal Clinical Microbiology and Infection and Advisory Editor of Open Forum Infectious Diseases”.
