Elena Cima, Lecturer in International Law at the University of Geneva/ISE, will participate in an important event at Climate Week NYC 2024. The event, titled "Remaking the international trade system for climate change action", will take place on September 25, 2024, from 2:15 PM to 3:30 PM ET at the Yale Club.

Climate Week NYC is one of the world's most influential forums for climate action, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and advocates to tackle the urgent climate challenges of our time. As the climate crisis intensifies, this week serves as a crucial moment for collaboration and innovation across sectors, setting the agenda for the future of climate policy.

This specific event is part of a larger summit organized by Yale Planetary Solutions, which will bring together experts and partners at the Yale Club for bold, creative discussions on the future of climate action. The summit aims to push the boundaries of conventional approaches to sustainability, uniting key actors from academia, government, business, and civil society.

Elena Cima's participation underscores the importance of having the University of Geneva and ISE represented in these pivotal conversations. Her expertise in international trade law will contribute to discussions focused on reforming the global trade system to support climate change mitigation, building on the Villars Framework for a Sustainable Global Trade System.

This event will gather policymakers, business leaders, and NGOs at a time of heightened global attention on the trade-climate interface, especially in the wake of the Biden Administration's National Trade-Climate Task Force and discussions at the Summit of the Future. Other speakers will include Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization; Ali Zaidi, White House Climate Advisor; Philippe Varin, Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce; and Prof. Dan Esty, Professor at Yale Law School and Yale School of the Environment.
