From their first moment in life, infants preferentially orient to talking faces and selectively attend to the orofacial movements of their social partners. Infants use this visible motor information along with the auditory input to elucidate perceptual uncertainties and assist word learning. On a convoluted path, infants amass tremendous experience in production and practice what will eventually become bits of words full of meaning. My research intends to explore how the motor experience of words gained from talking and seeing someone talking shapes along with the auditory input the sensory format of the nascent lexicon.
