New Report: The Great Greenwashing Machine Part 2

Why do we continue to buy endless polyester (plastic) items that will stick around to pollute the planet long after we throw them away, all while garment workers are being exploited and grossly underpaid? Sustainable fashion advocates call for a change in the way we think about clothes.

“The Great Greenwashing Machine” is a white paper on sustainable fashion written by GSEM Professor Dorothée Baumann-Pauly and Veronica Bates Kassatly, that highlights the fashion industry’s sustainability missteps.  The paper was published to draw attention to fast fashion’s problems and to try and change the way consumers think about clothes consumption. The issues covered include human rights abuses, fossil fuel-based materials that never decompose, and opaque and untrustworthy sustainability metrics.
