The complicated path to avoiding cotton from Xinjiang

In the face of evidence that Chinese cotton is picked mainly by forced labor, particularly by Uyghur workers, many Western textile companies are turning to other supply sources. But sourcing “clean” cotton is easier said than done. GSEM Professor Dorothée Baumann-Pauly talks about the complications of avoiding products from suppliers that trample on human rights, due to long and convoluted trade routes and the opacity of the origin of the fibres.
