Eva Cantoni appointed president of the Federal Statistics Commission

Professor Eva Cantoni has been appointed president of the Federal Statistics Commission by the Swiss Federal Council. She has also been reappointed member for the period 2024 to 2027.

Eva Cantoni is Full Professor at the GSEM’s Research Center for Statistics. Her research interests are robust statistics, variable and model selection, nonparametric regression, mixed models, and models for data with excess of zeros.

The Federal Statistical Commission comprises a maximum of 25 representatives from the cantons and municipalities, science, business, social partners, the Federal Administration, and the Swiss National Bank. The Commission helps to ensure that official statistics meet the requirements of a democratic society and provides expert advice to the Federal Council and others on important statistical issues including improving public statistics in Switzerland, developing recommendations and guidelines for statistical work, and the statistical information dissemination policy.
