Addressing child labor in the Ivory Coast cocoa sector
A new white paper from GSEM members Dorothée Baumann-Pauly and Berit Knaak’s maps the root causes of child labor in the Ivory Coast’s cocoa industry and analyzes the approaches employed to address them. .
Professor Baumann-Pauly worked with local partners in the Ivory Coast to determine the progress made towards eliminating child labor in the cocoa industry, a critical concern for companies, governments, and civil society organizations. The paper identifies the challenges in addressing child labor, illustrates the shortcomings of current approaches, and proposes a way forward.
