Anti-intellectualism on Social Media During COVID-19

Two years ago, the Confucius Institute at Geneva University launched a new lecture series called "China Tomorrow" 未来中国. The presentations are multidisciplinary and focus on the future of China. Each lecture is streamed online and features a Chinese speaker and a Western discussant, or vice versa. Prof. CHEN Yingying will present her research employing topic modeling and supervised machine learning to focus on anti-Fauci tweets, revealing themes of people-scientist antagonism and delegitimization of scientists' motivations and knowledge. The findings highlight significant implications for public trust in scientists and the challenges of effective science communication.

CHEN Yingying is a distinguished lecturer and researcher with extensive expertise in International News Communication and Computational Social Science Methods. With a PhD in Information and Media from Michigan State University and multiple advanced degrees from esteemed institutions like Northwestern University and Tsinghua University, Dr. Chen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our conference. She also has significant media experience, having worked as a reporter for Xinhua News Agency's foreign department and served as the chief correspondent at Xinhua's Nairobi bureau.
