Immersive Communication: the Key to Metaverse

This academic year, the Confucius Institute at Geneva University launched a new lecture series called "China Tomorrow" 未来中国. The presentations are multidisciplinary and focus on the future of China. Each lecture is streamed online and features a Chinese speaker and a Western discussant, or vice versa. When we talk about Metaverse, we are not just talking about the next generation Internet, but about the next generation of human lifestyle. The key to Metaverse lies in immersive technology and immersive communication mode. Professor LI Qin, who is one of the few pioneers in the study of immersive communication in the world, will discuss its theory, practice and challenges, and illustrate how immersive communication will lead us to the Metaverse through case studies.

Dr. LI Qin is currently director of the National Communication Strategy Research Center, and Professor at School of Journalism and Communication at Renmin University of China. She is a Graduate of the Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and is among the few pioneer scholars worldwide to study immersive communication. Her other research fields are global communication, international politics, and new media and social change.
