Summer school - Citizenship and the Politics of Contention

<< Back to 4EU+ HOME

We are delighted to share the success of the Summer School on Citizenship and the Politics of Contention, held from May 27th to 31st, 2024. This intensive programme was made possible through funding from Movetia and organized within the framework of the One Comprehensive Research European University (1CORE) initiative. The summer school, led by Prof. Marco Giugni, was co-developed in collaboration with the University of Milan and Paris-Panthéon-Assas University.

The aim of the programme was to deepen students' understanding of key themes surrounding citizenship and the politics of contention, while also enhancing their research skills. Over the five days, 14 students from universities across the 4EU+ Alliance explored a wide range of topics, including:

  • Contention in democracies vs autocracies
  • Individual vs collective forms of contention
  • Particularistic vs universalist contention
  • Online vs offline contention
  • Organized vs spontaneous contention

Each day ended with student-led presentations, allowing participants to apply their knowledge, refine their research questions, and practice delivering high-quality papers and presentations.

We extend our gratitude to all the participants for their enthusiasm and valuable contributions, and we are thrilled to hear the positive feedback on the programme’s impact!
