Conference by Prof. David Walker - 3 May 2010

In the framework of Prof. Deborah Madsen's seminar on "Writing the Confucian Imaginary" Prof. David Walker, Deakin University, Australia, gave a conference on "Anxious Nation:  Narratives of Asian Invasion in Australia".

The lecture was based on Prof. Walker's award-winning book "Anxious Nation" and dealt with the fear of Asian invasion which has shaped much of Australian history.  Professor David Walker is one of Australia's leading cultural historians, best known for his work on Australian-Asian relations, but he has also written widely on the history of Australian nationalism, on Australian publishing and medical history, including theories of the inevitable decline of the White race in colonial settings.
