| Description | The cartography of clefts in French: new data from il y a clefts and clefts in L1 acquisition In this talk, I will show how the cartography of clefts developed in Belletti (2012, 2015) carries over non-prototypical instances of clefts in French. I will focus on il y a ‘there is’ clefts, which are typical of spoken French, and compare them with c’est ‘it is’ clefts, from a distributional, a syntactic and a discourse-pragmatic point of view. I will also provide new data on the early acquisition of c’est clefts in French L1.
