Your daily dose of math! will take place on 22nd May, from 19:00 to 22:00 in Geneva as part of the "Pint of Science" initiative.

"Many people often consider Mathematics to be a scary branch of science, however it can be found almost everywhere in our daily life. Find out how a very important mathematical theory plays a crucial part in your regular coffee break, or how we can explore a whole new world on something as simple as a pint glass, where it's just a matter of perspective.

From coffee to mathematics Prof. Hugo Duminil-Copin (UNIGE, Fields Medal Winner 2022). The daily work of a scientist remains mysterious for most people, especially when the science in question is mathematics. During this intervention, we will discover some of the important aspects of the mathematical theory of making coffee, called percolation, and see its deep connections to other physical phenomena, such as magnetism.

Circles, lines and a pint of beer Dr Shaula Fiorelli ( Outreach Officer & co-director of Mathscope) A glass of beer is a circle when viewed from above and a very interesting surface when viewed in profile. What questions can a mathematician ask themself looking at it? From the circle to infinity via the mathematical imagination, a world to explore on a glass."

Pint of Science brings some of the most brilliant scientists to your local pub to share their latest research and findings with you. You don't need any prior knowledge, and this is your chance to meet the people responsible for the future of science (and have a pint with them). The festival takes place annually over three days in the month of May simultaneously in over 400 cities across the world. Pint of Science Switzerland is a not-for-profit association run by volunteers scientists and science enthusiasts.
