Anton obtained his PhD at the Steklov Mathematical Institute. After that, he held short postdoctoral positions in Paris, Uppsala (Sweden), Vienna, and at ETH-Zurich. Before moving to Geneva in 2001, he spent several years in Uppsala as a faculty member.
Since 2014, he has been the Deputy Director of the National Centre of Competence in Research SwissMAP funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Co-Director of the SwissMAP Research Station (SRS) since 2021.
