[1029] Surgical reconstruction and tissue regeneration
Traumatic injuries and pathological changes of peripheral nervous system often result in life-long disabilities with huge socio-economic burden. Functional reconstruction of the damaged nerves is a major clinical challenge. This is due to the dynamic and complex milieu of injured nerves requiring the multifactor support. Within this context, our research is focused on the development of novel biomaterials based delivery systems and neuro-tissue bioengineering.
Our group aims to develop novel and innovative therapeutic strategies for enhancing the clinical outcomes after microsurgical repair and reconstruction of tissues and organs, i.e., neuro-muscular, breast and facial tissues, upper and lower limbs. To transform the surgical reconstructive procedures into multidisciplinary surgical tissue engineering, we combine microsurgical strategies with bioengineering approaches.
