[944] Lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma
The projects of our research group focus on the identification of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of thoracic cancers such as malignant pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer. To this end, we have developed several in vitro and in vivo models of tumour development.
We have developed mouse models of orthotopic xenotransplantation of pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer. These models are very useful tools for the characterization of new treatments under development.
We also use tumour spheroids, a three-dimensional in vitro culture model, which allow us to mimic the complexity of tumours and can be used for the characterisation of new treatments as well as for the selection of a personalised oncological treatment. Thanks to the culture of tumour spheroids from a patient's tumour cells, we will be able to analyse the efficacy of a panel of available treatments and select the most effective treatment (or combination of treatments).
We work in close collaboration with clinicians, oncologists and biologists to conduct translational research that will ultimately lead to the establishment of a relevant clinical test that will allow the selection of an effective oncological treatment adapted to each patient.
