ERC grant for Roberto Coppari
Roberto Coppari, coordinator of the Faculty Diabetes Centre and professor at the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism of the Faculty of Medicine, is the winner of a grant from the European Research Council (ERC). The "Proof of Concept" grant - which aims to help the industrial valorization of research results - will enable Roberto Coppari and his team to explore the possibility of developing an innovative treatment for insulin deficiency based on the S100A9 protein. Indeed, Roberto Coppari recently demonstrated the protective action of S100A9 against metabolic imbalances caused by insulin deficiency. The therapeutic use of this protein could extend the life span of diabetics and significantly improve their quality of life.
