Tracing pheromone trails to the right mate: yeasts' guide on gradient decryption

Sajjita was born and raised in India, where she completed her master's degree in Biological Sciences and began her research journey at IISER Kolkata. She is currently a PhD candidate in Prof. Sophie Martin’s lab where she investigates the mating strategies of fission yeast, a free living, single-celled eukaryote. Her research delves into how these cells navigate complex environments, distinguishing between multiple shallow pheromone gradients secreted by several potential mating partners, and successfully orienting towards a single target cell to mate and fuse with. Outside the lab, Sajjita enjoys crafting and hiking in the Alps.
