Abstract
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three dimensional spine deformity affecting 2-4% of the population including 80% of women. Treatment is based on the evolution of the scoliosis curve and involves frequent repetitive radiological assessment, which has been associated with a long-term increase in mortality from breast cancer. Low-dose biplanar radiography was initially supposed to reduce 80 to 90% of radiation dose. It has finally been demonstrated to reduce it only by 50%. Radiation-free system (like rasterstereography, based on spine surface topography) has hence a high potential for use in monitoring spinal deformity.


This project aimed first to evaluated inter and intra-rater reliability of rasterstereography and to evaluate correlation with gold stand 2D low-dose radiography measurement of Cobb angle. Secondly, this project aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of rasterstereography. Thirdly, this project aimed to evaluate feasibility of rasterstereography for monitoring curve progression in AIS patients in comparison with gold standard in a longitudinal cohort study.
