An ERC grant to develop a new treatment for diabetes

Prof. Roberto Coppari was awarded a Proof of Concept grant from the European Research Council for his project entitled "Compositions for use in the treatment of insulin deficiency conditions". This highly competitive research grant will allow Roberto Coppari and his team to explore the commercial potential of one of his recent research projects.

The potential molecular target is the S100A9 protein, whose protective action against metabolic imbalance caused by insulin deficiency was demonstrated in a recent study in Nature Communications. The therapeutic use of this protein could extend the life span of diabetics.
