Marc Chanson studied in Geneva where he obtained a PhD in 1991. He continued his post-doctoral training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, USA), the Medical College of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA) and the University of Utrecht (Netherlands). These years were devoted to the study of transmembrane channels specialized in direct intercellular communication ("gap junctions"). Upon his return to Geneva in 1995 to the Department of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine, he developed projects on the role of intercellular communication in the inflammatory response based on mouse models of pancreatitis and acute lung damage, particularly in the context of a genetic disease, cystic fibrosis. His research is currently focused on host-pathogen interactions in cystic fibrosis. Marc Chanson was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics in May 2012 and to Full Professor in the Department of Cell physiology and metabolism in July 2020.
