Congratulations to Anne-Marie Makhlouf, member of the Dibner group for her successful thesis defence

Anne-Marie, whose Ph.D. studies began in 2012, trained in a collaboration between the laboratories of Dr. Dibner and Prof. Claude Pichard at the Department of Medical Specialties at the HUG. During the course of her training, she conducted a number of studies on fibroblasts isolated from obese, type 2 diabetic, or patients suffering from both conditions and explored whether links exist between circadian rhythms and these metabolic diseases. Her studies have revealed an intriguing connection between obesity, type 2 diabetes and circadian cycling and identified novel candidate genes that may underlie this connection. Anne-Marie additionally worked on identifying novel biomarkers for thyroid follicular carcinoma, a type of cancer shown previously by the Dibner group to display altered circadian clock properties, resulting in her recent first-author publication in Oncotarget. Anne-Marie additionally contributed to several collaborative fundamental and clinical studies during her prolific training, resulting in authorships in 8 other publications.
