A new head for the Section of Fundamental Medicine

As of October 2023, Prof. Michelangelo Foti takes on the challenge of leading the Section of Fundamental Medicine of University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine. The research of the more than fifty laboratories from the Section of Fundamental Medicine focuses on questions ranging molecular mechanism of cellular function to the biology of microorganisms, from the pathophysiology of major diseases to neural basis of behavior and human genetics.

Prof. Foti has been a PHYM faculty member since 2003, becoming Full Professor as of February 2021 and head of the PHYM department from 2018 to 2022. His laboratory’s research is centered on hepatic metabolic disorders and cancer, with a special focus on deciphering the mechanisms through which fat diet and obesity can trigger these diseases.
