A researcher apppointed as senior lecturer

In June 2024, Thomas Laumonier was appointed senior lecturer (MER) at the Faculty of Medicine.

He studied biology at the University of Nantes, France, and obtained a Master's degree in physiology and immunology in 2000. He then joined Prof. Robert Rieben's group at the University of Berne, and in 2003 obtained a PhD in cell biology and immunology from the University of Berne and the University of Nantes (co-tutored thesis). He then began a post-doctorate in the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, where he worked on improving muscle cell survival after autologous transplantation in pigs. In 2006, he obtained a position as Research Engineer in the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Surgery. Since 2017, Thomas Laumonier has been co-director of the Cell Therapy & Musculoskeletal Disorders laboratory in the Departments of Surgery & Cell Physiology and Metabolism.

Combining basic and translational research, he is primarily interested in developing cell therapy strategies in the treatment of skeletal muscle disorders, including myopathies. In February 2023, he became private docent and in June 2024 senior lecturer (MER).
