Marc Chanson studied in Geneva, where he obtained his PhD in 1991. He continued his post-doctoral training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, USA), the Medical College of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA) and Utrecht University (Netherlands). These years were devoted to the study of transmembrane channels involved in direct intercellular communication ("gap junctions"). Returning to Geneva in 1995 to work in the Department of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, he developed a research theme on the role of intercellular communication in the inflammatory response, using mouse models of pancreatitis and acute lung damage, particularly in the context of the genetic disease cystic fibrosis. His current research focuses on host-pathogen interactions in cystic fibrosis. Marc Chanson was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics in May 2012 and to Full Professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism in July 2020.
