Formed in 2003, the Department of cell physiology and metabolism is one of the largest departments from the section of fundamental research at the Faculty of Medicine.

With fifteen research groups and six clinical affiliates, our research covers a wide range of topics, ranging from cell to organism. Our particular strengths are cell physiology, cancer biology and metabolism. Our researchers, from over 20 countries, are opening up new therapeutic avenues for major diseases such as cancer, diabetes and bacterial infections. Together, they also foster intellectual growth of undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide more than 1'600 teaching hours per year.
