Emiliano Albanese is a physician with an FMH in public health, and holds an MSc in public health (LSHTM), and an MD-PhD in clinical neuropsychology.

He is currently an SSPH+ assistant professor of public mental health in the Department of Psychiatry (DUP), and Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Training in mental health at the University of Geneva.

In the past years and before moving to Geneva in 2013 Emiliano has collaborated closely with the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse of the WHO in a number of activities including the mhGAP and several dementia-related WHO programs.

Emiliano has previously worked at and still collaborates with the Institute of Psychiatry (King’s College London) and the National Institute on Aging (NIH, Bethesda – USA), and collaborates with the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health (LIGMH); and he is an active member of the ADI 10/66 group.

At the University of Geneva and within various SSPH+ programs he organizes and teaches a number of pre- and post-grad modules and courses in public mental health, epidemiology, psychiatry and psychiatric epidemiology.

The focus of Emiliano’s research is dementia and its epidemiology from a broad public health and evidence base perspective.

Emiliano is also active more broadly in the field of both aging and global mental health, particularly in Low and Middle Income Countries.

As an epidemiologist, he’s been and still is involved in a number of large cohort studies within which he has designed and conducted advanced analyses integrating meta-analytical, cross-cultural and life-course epidemiologic models.
