Andreas Schmalz joined the Research and Grants Office in 2018, where he is in charge of legal affairs including the negotiation, review and validation of contracts and agreements in the field of Lake Geneva, national, European and international research, the analysis of contractual risks related to commitments, and the management of the signature process. He also represents the Research and Grants Office in international working groups on good legal practices in research.

Andreas Schmalz has many years of experience in international cooperation, particularly in legal affairs, institutional partnerships and program coordination. His professional background includes positions at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), the Secretariat of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). He holds a master's degree in law from the University of Geneva.
