RGO X Unitec - Venture Talks 3 - Food Tech

What

Cultivated Biosciences is turning animal-free dairy into the better choice for everyone.

While dairy alternatives are on the rise globally, they fail to convince the broad public. Why? They don’t match the dairy experience in terms of texture & mouthfeel, but also nutritional values. Cultivated Biosciences improves the mouthfeel of animal-free ice-creams, yogurt and more, with no compromise on health and sustainability, by developing a unique creamy fat ingredient for the food industry, using fermentation.

The Speaker

Tomas, a Materials Engineer from EPFL, became passionate about alternative proteins as a solution to climate and health challenges during his studies. After completing a master’s thesis in microbial milkfat production at Howard Riezman's lab (UNIGE), he interned at Planted Foods. He then returned to EPFL, developing the concept of producing creamy ingredients with yeast. Now at Cultivated Biosciences, he’s working to make dairy-free products a top choice for everyone.
