3 new SNFS Consolidator Grants for the UNIGE

Currently, Switzerland has the status of high-income non-associated third country in the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. Consequently, the SNSF launched the transitional measure "SNSF Consolidator Grants 2022" on behalf of the Swiss government.

The "SNSF Consolidator Grants" instrument is aimed at researchers who want to carry out their innovative and high-risk research work in Switzerland and to consolidate their scientific independence. Following a very competitive evaluation, recipients can develop, with a team of their choice, their own research project in Switzerland for a period of five years.

After a two-stage evaluation process, 17% of the proposals submitted to the SNSF Consolidator Grants call 2022 will be funded by the SNSF, that is 30 projects out of the 182 applications it received. Three of these will be hosted by UNIGE. The participation rate of women in the call is 38%. At 20%, the success rate of women is higher than that of men (14%).

The allocated budget of approximately 54 million francs will fund 12 projects in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering, 8 in biology and medicine, and 10 in the humanities and social sciences. These funds were distributed across Universities (73%), the ETH domain (23%) and other institutions (3%).

The University of Geneva extends its sincere congratulations to the three laureates who have been awarded an SNSF Consolidator Grant 2022
