After studying law at the University of Neuchâtel, Audrey Leuba qualified as a barrister and went on to complete a Master's degree (LL.M) at Harvard Law School (USA) with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). In 1994, she passed the New York State Bar Exam. She is the author of a doctoral thesis on the division of tasks between spouses in light of the principle of equality between men and women. Initially an adjunct lecturer and then a lecturer at the Universities of Neuchâtel and Geneva (DEA Gender Studies), Audrey Leuba became an associate professor at Neuchâtel with an SNSF grant which she devoted to research on the situation of the elderly in nursing homes. In 2006, she was appointed full professor at the University of Geneva where she teaches family law, estate planning, and adult protection.

Audrey Leuba has served on various Swiss and cantonal bodies. She notably chaired the Swiss Society of Jurists. She has also been a member of the Federal Extra-parliamentary Coordination Commission for Family Matters (COFF), a member of several expert commissions established by the Federal Office of Justice, a member of the Higher Judiciary Council of the Canton of Geneva, a member of the Board of Trustees of Pro Senectute Switzerland, a member of the management board of the Institute of Health Law (UniNE), and a member of the Central Ethics Commission of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (ASSM).

Deeply involved in the life of the Faculty of Law at the University of Geneva, as well as that of the institution itself, she has chaired numerous faculty committees, sat on the Dean's Office and headed the Civil Law Department before becoming Dean of the Faculty in 2022. On 29 November 2023, upon the proposal of the University Assembly, the Council of State appointed Audrey Leuba Rector of the University of Geneva for the period from 1 April 2024 to 14 July 2028.
