“Welcome to this site which will allow you to discover a set of photographs of the Mediterranean taken in 1912 by Fred Boissonnas for the Hellenist Victor Bérard, today conserved at the Geneva Library (Bibliothèque de Genève), as well as a research project surrounding these documents. You can access a selection of 600 geolocated images, via several maps, or by using a catalogue. A story map presents the main stages of this photographic expedition across the Mediterranean and the interpretations of the sites suggested by Bérard.
This project has been led by the Department of Geography and Environment of the University of Geneva, with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation, the collaboration of the Bibliothèque de Genève, depository of the documents, and the French School of Athens, scientific partner.”
