Nick Chornay completed his PhD research in 2022 at the University of Cambridge, studying the evolution of planetary nebulae and their central stars using data from Gaia and ground-based observations. Before his stint at Cambridge he spent several years as a software engineer in Zurich, Switzerland, working on infrastructure projects on Google Calendar. His undergraduate studies in computer science and physics took place at MIT, and included a summer studentship at CERN. He joined the CU7 team in 2022.

 

Current Activities

Improving the classification of variable stars.

Research Interests

Astrostatistics and machine learning, observational astronomy, image analysis, post-common-envelope binary central stars of planetary nebulae.
