POsition-sensitive SiPMs Compact and Scalable beta-Camera (POSiCS) project founded by ATTRACT.
The goal of POSiCS is to develop a new type of optimized and highly sensitive beta-imaging camera for radio-guided surgery (RGS) and potentially for many other applications. The RGS technique is used to help surgeons to locate precisely tumours, and minimize the surgical invasiveness thus improving patient life quality after the intervention.
The proposed camera departs from what already developed so far for use a novel position sensitive SiPM (PS-SiPM). Such PS-SiPM device would allow to reach ~1 mm resolution on 2.5 cm^2 of active area with only 4 read-out channels, i.e. 16 times less number of channels with respect to standard arrays of SiPM.
The project started in the group by Prof. della Volpe and Dr. A. Nagaii and it is conducted by Prof. della Volpe.
