The ion pair of the stereolabile protonated C₃-symmetric diaza-macropentacycle and the configurationally stable Δ-TRISPHAT anion exists in the form of two diastereomers. Herein, it is shown that solvent polarity controls the thermodynamics of the inversion of the cationic propeller. However, both polarity and basicity control the kinetics of exchange.
